How to Share Your GIF Face Swap to Instagram Story, Reel & DM on iPhone

From your finished swap on iPhone:

• •Tap the pink Story button (or Share). iOS opens its share sheet.
• •Choose Instagram from the list of apps.
• •Pick Stories, Reel, or Direct (DM) — Instagram opens straight to that composer with your swap loaded.

Why your GIF posts as a video (and that's good)

Instagram Stories and Reels don't accept .gif files as media — only photos and video. So when you share a GIF swap, we automatically convert it to an MP4 first and hand that to Instagram instead.

You don't have to do anything; it happens behind the Story button. The upside is real: an MP4 plays as a crisp, full-quality looping clip in your Story or Reel, instead of the chunky, color-banded look GIFs get when an app re-compresses them. Your swap looks the way it did in the preview.

Post it to your Instagram Story

Stories are the most common destination, and the flow is built for it:

• •On your finished swap, tap the Story button.
• •In the iOS share sheet, tap the Instagram icon.
• •Choose Stories. Instagram opens its Story editor with your swap already placed.
• •Add text, stickers, or music if you like, then tap Your Story to publish.

If you don't see Instagram in the share sheet right away, swipe the app row sideways and tap More — iOS orders apps by how often you use them, so Instagram floats higher the more you share to it.

Turn it into a Reel

Because the swap is shared as a video, Instagram can use it as a Reel too:

• •Tap Story / Share, choose Instagram, then pick Reel instead of Stories.
• •Instagram drops your clip into the Reels editor, where you can loop it, add a trending audio track, and write a caption.
• •A short, punchy face-swap loop is ideal Reel material — it grabs attention in the first second and rewards the replay.

Send it in a DM (Direct Message)

Want to send the swap to one person or a group chat instead of posting publicly?

• •Tap Story / Share → Instagram → Direct.
• •Pick the person or group, and the video attaches to your message.
• •This is the fastest way to share a private inside joke without it ever hitting your profile.

Save it to your phone first (optional)

If you'd rather keep a copy before posting — or post it later — save it to your Photos library first:

• •Tap Download. On iPhone this opens the share sheet so you can choose Save Image (for the GIF) or Save Video.
• •Once it's in Photos, you can post it to Instagram anytime from the app's own + button, or attach it from your camera roll.

Saving first is handy if you want to post the same swap to multiple places without re-running the swap.
